What you will study

100-hour Teaching Methodology. Develop a detailed understanding of teacher and student roles, teaching structures and methods, classroom activities, error correction, feedback, vocabulary, language functions, receptive and productive skills, phonology, lesson planning and effective use of resources. The module also introduces teaching young learners, Business English and one-to-one lessons.

80-hour Grammar and Language Awareness. Strengthen the grammar knowledge needed to explain English clearly, covering nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, parts of speech, tenses, conditionals and related language structures.

60-hour Teaching English Online. Prepare for online teaching by exploring suitable technology, digital resources, lesson structure and ways to create engaging learning experiences for different learners.

10-hour Teaching Large Classes. Learn how to organise larger groups, maintain engagement and manage classroom discipline—valuable preparation for busy school and academy environments.

More comprehensive than the 120-hour course

The 120-hour Premier Online TEFL Course provides the recognised foundation sought by many employers. The 250-hour Level 5 Diploma goes further, with additional training time, deeper methodology and grammar coverage, and substantially expanded preparation for teaching English online.

For South Korea, the higher-level diploma can help candidates demonstrate stronger preparation and enter the classroom with greater confidence. It does not create automatic visa eligibility or guarantee that an employer will prefer one candidate over another. Asia Pathway can help you compare both routes based on your background, budget and career goals.

Flexible study with personal tutor support

The course is fully online and designed around independent, self-paced study. Learners receive seven months of access and can begin as soon as enrolment is complete. A dedicated tutor provides guidance, answers course questions and marks written assignments with constructive feedback. Extension options may be available directly from The TEFL Org if more time is needed.

Course forums also allow learners to connect with other students and discuss their training and future teaching plans.

Certification and accreditation

Successful learners receive The TEFL Org’s 250-hour Level 5 TEFL Diploma. The qualification is regulated by Ofqual and awarded through TQUK, an Ofqual-recognised awarding organisation. The course is also approved under the Distance Education Accrediting Commission’s Approved Quality Curriculum scheme.

Level 5 describes the qualification’s position on the regulated framework in England. It should not be interpreted as the same course as CELTA or Trinity CertTESOL, and this online route does not include an in-person classroom component or observed live teaching practice.

The completion package includes a digital certificate, with a hard-copy certificate available at no additional course charge, including applicable shipping.

Course entry requirements

  • No previous teaching experience is required.
  • No previous teaching qualification is required.
  • Applicants should speak English fluently.
  • Learners need sufficient English proficiency to understand advanced course materials and complete written assignments.
  • A suitable device and reliable internet connection are required.
  • A bachelor’s degree is not required to enrol in the TEFL course, but it is normally required for the principal South Korea teaching and E-2 visa routes.

Preparing to teach English in South Korea

South Korea offers established routes for international English teachers, including government-supported public-school recruitment, direct public-school opportunities and private language academies known as hagwons. The Level 5 diploma provides extensive teaching preparation, but employment and immigration decisions remain subject to the relevant recruiter, school and Korean authorities.

International schools operate under a different professional market and commonly expect a recognised school-teaching licence, relevant classroom experience and sometimes an advanced degree. A Level 5 TEFL diploma alone should not be treated as eligibility for licensed international-school positions.

Common South Korea employment and visa conditions

Most eligible international teachers entering public schools or private language academies use an employer-sponsored E-2 foreign-language instructor visa. Common eligibility and document requirements include:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • A valid passport and eligibility connected to the language being taught.
  • A clean national criminal-record or background check.
  • Authenticated degree and supporting documents.
  • A signed employment contract and sponsorship documents from the Korean employer.
  • Completion of the required health statement and applicable post-arrival medical or drug screening.
  • Meeting the nationality, education and language-background rules of the employer, visa category and recruitment programme.

For many native-English teaching routes, applicants are normally citizens of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand or South Africa. Limited exceptions can apply to particular applicants or programmes. Asia Pathway reviews each candidate’s background before recommending a South Korea employment route.

Public schools, EPIK and private academies

Public schools and EPIK. Public-school teachers commonly work weekday daytime schedules and may teach alongside a Korean co-teacher. EPIK applicants must satisfy its citizenship, education, health and document rules. Applicants who do not hold an accepted education-related degree, teaching licence or other qualifying credential generally use a TEFL, TESOL or CELTA certificate of at least 100 hours to establish the relevant qualification level.

Private academies. Hagwons are a major source of entry-level teaching roles and often recruit throughout the year. Schedules are commonly weighted toward afternoons and evenings. Contracts, teaching hours, housing, benefits and workplace conditions vary, so every offer should be reviewed carefully.

Teaching online. The course includes extensive online-teaching preparation and may also support applications for remote English-teaching work. Platform requirements, learner markets, schedules and pay structures vary independently from South Korean visa rules.

Typical salary and employment benefits

Public-school and hagwon teachers commonly see advertised salaries of approximately KRW 2.1 million to KRW 3.2 million per month, depending on the employer, location, qualifications and experience. Employment packages may include accommodation or a housing allowance, airfare support, national health insurance, paid leave and a contract-completion benefit.

Salary, deductions and benefits must be confirmed in the individual contract. Neither course completion nor certification guarantees employment, salary, accommodation or visa approval.
