Academic English for the next stage of study

Students learn to understand academic texts and lectures, participate in sustained discussions, produce structured written work and communicate ideas with greater accuracy and independence. The course also develops critical reading, referencing, paraphrasing, exam strategies and independent learning habits.

Entry requirements

• Applicants must be at least 16 years old.
• Level 4 requires evidence of English proficiency broadly equivalent to CEFR B2 Low, which may include recognised test evidence, an appropriate prior NZCEL qualification or Bridge’s internal assessment.
• Level 5 requires evidence of English proficiency broadly equivalent to CEFR B2 Mid, which may include recognised test evidence, successful NZCEL Level 4 study or Bridge’s internal assessment.
• Applicants must hold the appropriate immigration status for their intended study.

Tuition and additional fees

• NZCEL Level 4 standard tuition: NZD 7,800 for one 16-week semester.
• Approximate Level 4 tuition: USD 4,460 per semester.
• NZCEL Level 5 standard tuition: NZD 8,400 for one 16-week semester.
• Approximate Level 5 tuition: USD 4,800 per semester.
• Material fee: NZD 650 per level.
